From the Chair

Hello everyone!  I have enjoyed my participation on the Board these past several years and truly appreciate the opportunity to serve as CACC’s Chairperson this year.  I’m looking forward to a productive 2013!

To be successful, our association requires the commitment of several people.  I know all of you join me in thanking our current Board members for donating their time and brain power.  Our Board members, in turn, wish to recognize the contributions of their fabulous Committee members.  CACC currently has 17 Committee members but we can never have too many volunteers.  If you are interested in joining a committee, please reach out to a Board member for more information.

2013 got off to an amazing start when we hosted WorldatWork CEO, Anne Ruddy at our February member meeting.  We were honored to have Anne present “Total Rewards Career Development – How High Performers Make It to the Top”.  Her presentation, which referenced the 2012 Total Rewards Professionals’ Census, challenged us to think about our career goals and ask “What should I be doing for me?”  Anne shared results from the Census including the Key Differentiators of Top Total Rewards Performers to give us a framework within which to think about our career development.  Needless to say, it was quite a special event!

Speaking of events, CACC’s April calendar is incredibly exciting: 

Our first Social event of the year is being held on Thursday, April 11th.  Eileen Ekey and her committee have arranged something new for us – BOWLING!  We hope to see you at this fun-filled networking opportunity.  Please register on the website. 

Megan Blankemeyer and the Education Committee members are preparing for our first WorldatWork certification courses.   Regulatory Environments for Benefit Programs (B1) and Total Rewards Management (T1) are being offered on April 15th - April 16th.  And it’s not too soon to start planning for July when one of the offerings is CACC’s first Work-Life course:  Organizational Culture Change – A Work-Life Perspective (W4)!   You can find all of the details on the website. The end of the month brings us:

  • Total Rewards Professionals Week, April 29 – May 3.  The week recognizes those who specialize in the design and implementation of compensation, benefits and work-life programs.   It highlights the strategic role human resource professionals play and is a time to celebrate our contributions towards attracting, motivating and retaining the talent organizations need to be successful.  For more information on this initiative, visit www.worldatwork.org/celebrateTRPW.
  • The WorldatWork Total Rewards Conference, April 29 – May 1.  If you are attending the conference, you can participate in Total Rewards Professionals Week by attending the Celebrate Your Profession Breakfast on Tuesday.  In addition, I am in the process of organizing a dinner   for CACC members on Tuesday evening.  If you would like to be included, please email me directly at [email protected] no later than Tuesday, April 9th. 

In closing, I’d like to say a special “Thank you!” to Caroline Haynes, 2012 CACC Chairperson.  A long-time Board member, her dedication and leadership were evident throughout 2012.  I remember how excited she was that CACC was named the Local Network Association of the Year!  It was an honor to receive the award and she was so proud of all of CACC’s members whose service and commitment to the organization made it possible.  I look forward to working with Caroline again this year and will especially value her insight.

CACC Member Meeting

The Charlotte Area Compensation Council is very pleased to announce another special guest for our upcoming meeting. The Economic Research Institute’s (ERI’s) Founding Director, Dr. David Thomsen, ASA, is making one final tour of North America in 2013, including a stop at our May meeting. Dr. Thomsen will be speaking on 2013’s Emerging Compensation Issues as well as covering ERI’s data collection, methodology and software analytics.

This May, we are again partnering with Classroom Central to restock their school supplies. Schools are in session until mid-June and supplies are still very much needed. This can also help lay a strong foundation for supplies in the fall. Please bring pens, pencils, paper and any other school supplies to the meeting. Classroom Central uses the donations to supply Charlotte area teachers and students with the materials they need for learning all year long.  Your support is needed so no child goes without. Mentoring

2013 CACC Mentoring Program – Kicked Off Our 5th Year!

The 5th year of the CACC Mentoring Program kicked off on February 25, 2013.  Once again this year, participants – both mentors and mentees – were introduced with a “speed dating” exercise and the mentees were able to select their choices for a mentor.

New Member Spotlight

We would like to welcome one of our newest CACC Members, Rosanne Scheeff, to our group.  Rosanne has 15 years of compensation experience and is the Manager of Compensation for Shurtape Technologies and ShurTech Brands, LLC.   Shurtape Technologies LLC is a privately owned company, proudly serving a variety of markets, from painting and packaging to HVAC and transportation.  ShurTech Brands LLC, which is a subsidiary of Shurtape Technologies LLC, markets and manufactures do-it-yourself tapes under the Duck®, Painter's Mate Green®, Caremail®, FrogTape® and Easy Liner® brands.    

The Duck Tape ® Facebook page has 5,356,331 fans!!!  

Rosanne is responsible for managing compensation for both Avon, Ohio (which is a suburb of Cleveland) and Hickory, North Carolina.   She resides in Ohio, and in her free time, she enjoys being with her family and friends, listening to music and reading.   Rosanne has two children, a 5 year old daughter and an 8 year old son, who are both very active with sports and other activities.   Rosanne and her husband devote most of their spare time enjoying their children’s activities!
