From the Chair
CACC Members:
I was happy to see so many of you at our September meeting. Alison French from Kenexa was an enthusiastic speaker with a great message. From the charitable perspective, with both financial and in-kind donations, our group raised the equivalent of 1,565 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank! What an excellent way to begin our fall season.
But that’s just the start of several exciting activities we’ve got planned for autumn. Please see the other sections of this newsletter for information on CACC’s:

In addition, we’re sponsoring a special guest – a professional photographer who will be on site to take head shots. The photos will be made available to members for your use, i.e. CACC website profile, LinkedIn .
Whew! There’s a lot going on before the holidays arrive. If you haven’t had a chance lately, be sure to check out the CACC Website. We’ve added a Work-Life page and it’s a wonderful resource. Also, keep an eye out for your membership renewal which will be sent soon. We’re already planning to make 2014 a great year and hope you will continue to be a part of CACC!

At the November Member Meeting
As Tracy shared above, we are very excited to have Michael C. Hernandez, founder and owner of Capture Happy Photography at our November meeting. He has an impressive portfolio, which you can view on his website along with some of his featured work. Michael served as the official photographer for the Susan G. Komen Charlotte “Race for the Cure” events in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and was recently honored with the request to photograph the 2013 event. In addition, Michael was the photographer for the Susan G. Komen Charlotte 2011 “Survivors Campaign,” which was has been promoted through a variety of media outlets and public showings around the Charlotte region.
Below you will find the link to Michael’s website where he shares a little bit about himself and his passion. In addition, you can view some of the incredible work that he has done to date. We are truly fortunate that Michael is sharing his time and talent with us, and I sincerely hope that everyone takes advantage of this special opportunity.

Community Outreach Update
Thank you to all CACC members who have assisted with our successful support of the charitable organizations that we have sponsored over the past year! CACC donated 25 pounds of food plus $320, so the equivalent of 1565 pounds during the September member meeting in support of Second Harvest. Shay Merritt of Second Harvest sends her greatest appreciation of our support for the organization.
In November, CACC will host the Charlotte Rescue Mission (CRM). CRM’s mission is “to minister the Good News of Christianity to individuals caught in the crisis of poverty, hopelessness, or addictions by meeting their spiritual, physical and emotional needs”. We would like to challenge all CACC members to participate in our November activity. We are asking each member to bring one can/jar of coffee or non-dairy creamer for our CRM food drive for the November 13th member meeting. Non-perishable food items like coffee and non-diary creamer are very much needed items for CRM. Can we count on CACC to donate a total of 100 items? Any brand or form of coffee and non-diary creamer is gladly appreciated.
Lastly, if you have a charity that you would like CACC to sponsor in 2014, please share you recommendations with a member of the Board or the Outreach Committee. The fantastic members of the Committee are Sheila Fetner, Brandy Maxwell, Susan Germuth, Joanette West and me.

Mentoring
Mentee – Year Three!
Three years in the mentoring program. I can’t believe how fast the time has passed. What a great experience!! And it’s not over yet! As I am in full swing of my third year, I look forward to building a great relationship with my new mentor.
The reasons I chose to become a mentee were to build strong professional relationships, continue to develop as a HR Compensation professional, and to give back as a way to support others in the profession. Great strides have been accomplished and more to come!
The opportunity to connect with each mentor has given me the chance to gather different insights, perspectives, and experiences in the areas of leadership styles, handling difficult situations, and navigating the career landscape. The lessons have been invaluable and I appreciate each mentor for sharing their time with me.
I have used the mentoring lessons learned to develop better working relationships along with self-development initiatives for growth as a compensation professional. I have even become a mentor to a college student at Winthrop University. I am honored to assist him as he navigates through his college program, in pursuit of internship opportunities, and in preparation for work life after college. It has been a rewarding experience as we’ve wrapped up the first year of our mentoring relationship.
In my mentoring relationships during these three years, I’ve asked each mentor how I can support them during this process as well. I never want this to be a one-sided experience where I reap all the benefits. A relationship is more meaningful when the outcomes are beneficial to both mentee and mentor.
Maybe one day, this “three year old” mentee will become a mentor in the CACCs Mentoring Program. I do believe it is worth the time to develop and give back on both sides of the mentoring table!
